Cover your ears, Andrew!
Sandringham Estate to host dozens of comedians
Plenty of comedians have jokes about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor… and now he might just be able to hear them.
A raft of stand-ups have been booked to play a festival on the King’s Sandringham Estate, where the former prince has just moved into Marsh Farm having been kicked out of Royal Lodge in Windsor.
The 20,000-acre Royal site is hosting a five-day Heritage Live festival from August 19, with previously announced musical headliners Janet Jackson, Lionel Richie, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, and Eric Clapton.
Now organises have added a big top featuring a full live comedy programme, with Russell Howard, Russell Kane, Rory Bremner, Josh Widdicombe and Tom Allen topping the bill.
Each day will also see a ‘comedy legend’ guest slot, featuring the well-established acts Mick Miller, Punt & Dennis, Jasper Carrott, Arthur Smith, and Bobby Davro.
Kicking the Festival off on Wednesday will be a lineup headlined by Bremner, with Milton Jones, Pierre Hollins, Julian Deane, Mandy Muden, Davro and MC Kevin McCarthy, and a ‘Comedy Legend’ guest set from.
Thursday sees Widdicombe and Smith joined by Rob Deering, Lou Conran, Eddy Brimson, Ben Norris and Jake Lambert.
On Friday, Howard tops the bill, joined by Sara Pascoe, Tez Ilyas, Laura Smyth, Mary Bourke, Ben Norris and Punt & Dennis.
Saturday’s programme features Kane and Miller with Rich Wilson, Dave Johns, Dominic Frisby, Marcel Lucont and Ninia Benjami.
The Comedy Big Top programme rounds off on Sunday with Allen closing the weekend, alongside Henning When, Mike Gunn, Angela Barnes, Scott Bennett, plus Carrott in the legend slot.
HeritageLive stages events in many landmark locations, and is the brainchild of leading concert promoter Giles Cooper.
He said: ‘From the very beginning, our vision for the shows at The Sandringham Estate has been to create something really special - world-class entertainment in one of the most beautiful and historic settings in the country. We’re incredibly excited to now expand the experience by introducing a full programme of live comedy at Sandringham.’
Luckily for Mountbatten-Windsor the estate is probably too big for him to accidentally any hear jokes at his expense. The festival site, near St Mary Magdalene Church, is more than two and a half miles from Marsh Farm.
Day tickets range from £84.80 for Christina Aguilara on the Friday to £135 for Lionel Richie on the Thursday and are available from SeeTickets.
