New comedy film has a familiar premise

Eagle-eyed viewers might spot something familiar about the premise of an absurd new comedy film set to have its premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe…

Exiled In Ireland is about three priests abandoned on an island off the Irish coast.

And what’s more, the 45-minute film was co-written by Joe Rooney – who played Father Damo in Father Ted.

In the film, Rooney, fellow comedian Ian Coppinger  and improviser Graeme Singleton play the priests left behind on the island in lockdown, and who become convinced they’re being exiled by God.

Producers at Dublin Comedy TV call it ‘a risk-taking slapstick comedy that pays off in its unique storyline which manages to maintain some heart’.

Rooney wrote there scripts with Antoinette Scherer, who directs.

Exiled In Ireland screens at TheSpace @ Surgeon’s Hall at 11.15pm on August 27 and 28, and 9.45pm at TheSpace @ Symposium on August 29. 

The film also stars Danny Kehoe and Matthew Ralli as the antagonist priests, and Paul Murphy and Paul Tylak as senior clergymen.
