Comedian Alex Black has his bail extended

Police enquiries continue

Comedian Alex Black has had his bail extended.

The stand-up was arrested last month after he was confronted by self-appointed justice warriors in a supermarket car park.

He was charged with sexual offences and originally bailed until this week. Those terms have now extended until January.

Warwickshire and West Mercia Police confirmed: ‘A 39-year-old man from Solihull arrested on suspicion of sexual offences has been re-bailed until 6 January 2020 while enquiries continue.

The Soul Survivors group live-streamed their confrontation with Black on  Facebook, during which he repeatedly protested his innocence, saying: ‘I don’t know what you are talking about.’

Black’s real name is Richard Burley, and he is a former Church of England vicar who has worked as a communications assistant at Birmingham Churches Together.

He was a finalist in the Birmingham Comedy Festival Breaking Talent award in 2017 and made his Edinburgh debut this summer with a show entitled Alex Black’s Record Collection, about a break-up from his long-term partner.
