Mark Watson creates a text adventure game

Demo of Main Character available now

Mark Watson has released the demo version of a game he’s co-written.

Main Character is a text-based adventure designed to be played every day ‘like Wordle’. It is due for release next June, but the newly released tester runs for three days for Halloween.

In an email to fans, Watson – who created the game with collaborator Mat Ryer - wrote: ‘It’s a text adventure which you can play in hundreds of different ways.

‘The basic idea is, at the start of the game, you’ve downloaded an app called Main Character which promises to shake up your life, make you a better person - change you.

‘Almost as soon as it’s on your phone, strange things start to happen to you; you are in dramatic situations, you have dilemmas to resolve. In fact, the app is almost working TOO well. It is making you into - what they call a main character. Can you step up to that? Or, if you don’t want to, can you escape?’

The demo version can be played at https://maincharacter.app/ – with Waton warning: ‘Not everything might be working perfectly yet, but you will get the idea.’
