The winner of the Edinburgh Comedy Award best newcomer in 2015 and the Chortle Best Newcomer Award in 2014, Copenhagen-born Sofie Hagen started comedy in 2010, and was runner-up in the Leicester Square Comedian Of The Year 2012 and a finalist in the Piccadilly Comedy Club new act competition in the same year. Comedy Central announces specials from 9 UK comedians

Kicking off with Iain Stirling

Comedy Central is to air a new series of 20-minute stand-up specials from up-and-coming British-based comedians.

Iain Stirling will kick off the new series, Comedy Central Live, which was recorded in Dingwalls in Camden, the former North London home of Jongleurs comedy club.

In his episode, which airs at 10.30pm on May 15, the comic and Love Island voiceover talks about growing old and his previous work as a children’s TV presenter.

The other comedians taking part in the series are Stephen Bailey, Darren Harriott, Sofie Hagen, Luisa Omielan, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Tez Ilyas, Fin Taylor and Desiree Burch.

 Comedy Central Live was also the name of a three-day stand-up festival at Southampton's Hoglands Park last year, headlined by  Jimmy Carr, Russell Howard and Katherine Ryan.
