Comedy Central announces specials from 9 UK comedians

Kicking off with Iain Stirling

Comedy Central is to air a new series of 20-minute stand-up specials from up-and-coming British-based comedians.

Iain Stirling will kick off the new series, Comedy Central Live, which was recorded in Dingwalls in Camden, the former North London home of Jongleurs comedy club.

In his episode, which airs at 10.30pm on May 15, the comic and Love Island voiceover talks about growing old and his previous work as a children’s TV presenter.

The other comedians taking part in the series are Stephen Bailey, Darren Harriott, Sofie Hagen, Luisa Omielan, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Tez Ilyas, Fin Taylor and Desiree Burch.

Comedy Central Live was also the name of a three-day stand-up festival at Southampton's Hoglands Park last year, headlined by  Jimmy Carr, Russell Howard and Katherine Ryan.

This is the show that celebrated the launch of Nick Helm's album in 2016, and has previously been unseen by anyone who was not in the O2 Forum Kentish Town that night.

With typical hyperbole, the show is described thusly: 'Under-rehearsed, under-prepared and under pressure, Nick and his band somehow managed to pull together the greatest show in the last 27 years of living memory. That show went down as a thing of legend, often spoken about by weary travellers around campfires, but thought to have been lost to the sands of time forever.'
