David Byrne immortalises Daniel Kitson in song

...thanks to a new track from Australian pop singer Montaigne

comedyDavid Byrne has namechecked Daniel Kitson in a new song.

The Talking Heads frontman has collaborated with Australian pop singer Montaigne on the new single,  Always Be You.

And midway through the track,  Byrne sings: ‘Every day we decide to stay together. You know, ’bout the point that Daniel Kitson made.’

Montaigne, below, whose real name is Jessica Cerro and who represented Australia in last year's Eurovision Song Contest  wrote the lyrics – and the reference to Kitson was one of the factors that drew Byrne to the collaboration.

Montaigne

He is quoted as sating: ‘We both share the song’s sentiment about being with our partners and we’re both fans of Daniel Kitson. I hope Daniel Kitson (with whom I have played football one time at Crystal Palace) likes this song and plays it on his radio show.’

‘How many artists would reference funny monologist Daniel Kitson? But with Jess that quirkiness translates into complete heartfelt honesty and transparency about her feelings—feelings many of us might be ashamed or afraid to admit to—all set to incredibly infectious tunes. Brave, weird, and catchy.’

Kitson sometimes hosts a programme on London’s Resonance FM, which Byrne was talking about.

The news comes as Australian musician Pictish Trail released a video featuring James Acaster.
