Read her bonkers reviews
She may be a fictional character, but that hasn’t stopped Philomena Cunk from having her own account on the movie review website Letterboxd.
The creation of Charlier Brooker, as played by Diane Morgan, admits it’s all a publicity stunt to promote Cunk On Cinema’s launch on BBC Two on Thursday (and to Netflix internationally on November 15)
‘Done a show about cinema so the producers made me set this up for PR reasons,’ the account’s bio reads. ‘They’re literally watching me type this now.’
But it is full of gags, such as:
- Dune: Contains more brown things than my nan’s front room in 1980
- The Wizard Of Oz: A chilling warning about not trusting scarecrows, who are grassy pricks. Although apparently that’s a strawman argument.
- The Rock: Big screen adaptation of Ronnie Barker’s Porridge.
One more fun fact about Cunk On Cinema, as noted by a fan online: the title contains all five vowels, exactly once, and in reverse alphabetical order.
