Margaret Cho: My abortions... and dating Quentin Tarantino

Comic opens up on podcast

comedyRarely coy at the best of times, Margaret Cho has opened up about her relationship history – revealing she had abortions after getting  pregnant by two ‘really accomplished, super handsome men in entertainment’ and how dating Quentin Tarantino ‘freaked [her] out’.

The comic said she would have given birth to ‘formidable nepo babies’ had she gone through with the pregnancies. ‘I would've won the Wasian [White Asian] Olympics,’ she joked. ‘The calibre of the semen that we're talking about was high end.’

More seriously, she told Dinky podcast host Erika Abdelatif  that she was ‘really glad’ she didn’t have children, and poured scorn on the pervasive notion that ‘you have to have kids or your life is somehow incomplete’

‘I don't feel like my life is incomplete,’ she said. ‘I don't want children. I'm really glad I didn't have them.

‘I also resent the idea of, "You're going to die alone."  That's what I was hoping for. I don't want to have a bunch of people rely on me or that I will have to rely on. I would rather pay people to take care of me when I'm old..  "Your bloodline's gonna die out." That doesn't matter to me.’

And she opened up about her romance with Once Upon A Time In Hollywood director  Quentin Tarantino.

‘People would kiss his ass everywhere we went,’ she said. ‘This was right after Pulp Fiction came out, during awards season.

‘I've never witnessed the kind of power that he had walking into a room. We'd go to the Directors Guild and everybody at his table would stand up, like Billy Wilder, Martin Scorsese… People would just fall at his feet, go crazy, try to get him aside, just going insane.

‘I was really freaked out about it. Nobody should have that much power. But the way he changed Hollywood in the 1990s was really revolutionary. Because of that, the industry fell all around him.’

Cho’s episode of Dinky drops tomorrow.
