New series from Derry Girls creator

Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee is making a new mockumentary set in the high-stakes world of competitive Irish dancing.

The six-part Netflix series will be shot in Northern Ireland next year. 

It revolves around best friends Cara and Fletcher, from the struggling Sweeney School of Dance in Derry, who take on their sworn rivals in Florida, a slick, sponsored, seemingly unbeatable operation.

Last month it was also announced that McGee is making another transatlantic comedy – Wildwood –  about a group of Irish college girls who descend on New Jersey in the summer of 2000. That will be made for US streamer FX.

McGee recently made the acclaimed series How To Get to Heaven From Belfast, which launched on Netflix in February, amassing a 95 per cent positive score on review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.

Jig is being made by Orchid Pictures, whose credits include  Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials.
