Alex Jennings and Al Nash join cast
Filming has wrapped on the third series of BBC comedy Black Ops.
Further casting has also been announced, with Alex Jennings, who starred in The Crown and A Very English Scandal, joining as Dr Charles Dunstable, a controversial historian.
The series reunites Gbemisola Ikumelo and Hammed Animashaun as the chaotic police community support officers turned spies Dom and Kay.
Al Nash – who is a cast member of Saturday Night Live UK alongside Animashaun – will also have a guest role, which has not been revealed.
In the six new episodes, the pair are sent on their first undercover mission for MI5. They must uncover the identities of a secretive far-right terror group by infiltrating the world of a shady museum director, who is selling off priceless artefacts to fund its activities.
Ikumelo said: ‘It’s crazy that we’re back doing this again and have somehow managed to make Dom and Kay’s lives even more chaotic. We’ve also been spoiled with the most amazing guest cast. So many ridiculously talented people who have come in and completely thrown themselves into the madness. There are laughs, danger, questionable decisions and, naturally, plenty of Dom and Kay in over their heads.’
Animashaun added: ‘Black Ops series three! It still blows my mind! Filming has been a wild ride, although I’m not sure Kay would describe it that way as we put him through a lot this series, as you’d expect…’
Akemnji Ndifornyen – who created the series with Ikumelo, Joe Tucker and Lloyd Woolf – returns as gang boss Tevin, while Denise Black, known for Rivals and Emmerdale, plays Jean, a pathologically unhelpful MI5 employee. CJ Beckford and Neil Bell also have guest roles.
The series was shot in Manchester and the North West.
