FX snaps up the rights to Wildwood

Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee is making a new comedy about a group of Irish college girls who descend on New Jersey in the summer of 2000.

Called Wildwood, the show – which could be seen as a spiritual successor to her Channel 4 smash about schoolgirls in the 1990s – will be made for US streamer FX.

The broadcaster won the rights after what trade website Deadline calls ‘a  very competitive situation’.

And it describes the central characters as having ‘no money, no visas, no plan, no clue’ when they arrive in the titular city, a Jersey Shore resort known for its waterparks and thrill rides.

McGee recently made the acclaimed series How To Get to Heaven From Belfast, which launched on Netflix in February, amassing a 95 per cent positive score on review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.
