US critics hail Amy Schumer

A tight 5: June 1

SILICON VALLEY was named best US comedy at the Critics' Choice Television Awards in Los Angeles last night. Amy Schumer was named best actress in a comedy series for Inside Amy Schumer and Jeffrey Tambor best actor for the Amazon series Transparent. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart was named best talk show and Archer best animated series. Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane won the ‘genius award’.

MORE than 100,000 people attended this year's Leicester comedy festival, with more than half of them coming from outside Leicestershire, its organisers have announced. A national survey also found the event, backed by Dave, was the second best-known comedy festival in the country after the Edinburgh Fringe and ahead of the Brighton Comedy Festival.

COMEDY historian Graham McCann won the £100 prize for the best Correspondents piece in May for his article about how he discovered Open All Hours creator Roy Clarke was commissioned to write a sitcom for Morecambe and Wise that never saw the light of day.

SARA PASCOE, Tony Law, Felicity Ward, Trygve Wakenshaw, Joel Dommett and Rachel Parris have been announced for the Somersault Festival in North Devon from July 24 to 27. Musical headliners include Laura Marling and Bombay Bicycle Club.

AND Frankie Boyle is to be one of the headliners at the Féile festival at at Falls Park, Belfast, on Friday August 7.
