First look at Charlie Brooker's new detective spoof

As Rory Kinnear joins the cast of Blackmere

Netflix has revealed the title of Chris Brooker’s new spoof police thriller – Blackmere – and released some first images from the show.

The pictures reveal that Rory Kinnear has joined the cast alongside the previously announced Paddy Considine, Georgina Campbell and Lena Headey.

The show – with a title remarkably similar to Brooker’s Black Mirror – is described as ‘an absurd comedy disguised as an incredibly serious crime thriller’.

It shares much of the writing team of A Touch Of Class, Brooker’s police procedural parody which aired on Sky in in 2012, with Ben Caudell, Jason Hazeley, Dan Maier and Joel Morris being joined by Emer Kenny.

The synopsis of the show, revealed at a Netflix UK event in London today, reads: ‘Tormented Detective John Blackmere leaves the rain-soaked Northern city of Bleakford for London to avenge his partner’s death and catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of victims. Contains blood and frowning.’

The four-part series will air on Netflix in early 2027.

When the show was first announced last year, Brooker joked: ‘I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release. I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it.

‘I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.
