Jerry Seinfeld at the Comedy Store

Star's surprise appearance

Jerry Seinfeld made a surprise appearance at the London Comedy Store last night.

The sitcom king made his first appearance on a London stage after the regular Comedy Store Players improv show.

The unannounced appearance was a warm-up for his show at the slightly less intimate show at the O2 on Friday, which attracted criticism for ticket prices of up to £100.

He received a standing ovation as he took to the stage, before performing a half-hour set that included observations about Twitter, restaurants, the Arnold Schwarzenegger scandal and the Royal Wedding.

Afterwards, Comedy Store Player Josie Lawrence tweeted: ‘Thank you Jerry Seinfeld! Laughter IS the greatest medicine - that and Benylin.’

And Richard Vranch posted: ‘Just hangin’ out in the Comedy Store dressing room with Jerry Seinfeld. Like you do.’

Seinfeld is not the first comedy megastar to make a surprise appearance at the venue – with Chris Rock and Robin Williams having previously road-tested material there.
