James Acaster hits the big screen
Comedian's tour show to be shown in more than 400 cinemas
James Acaster’s last tour is to be screened in more than 400 cinemas across the UK.
Cinemagoers Welcome is a version of his Hecklers Welcome show, which was filmed during tour dates in Truro, Dublin and Northampton.
The premise was that rather than shutting down interruptions, Acaster actively invited them, creating performances that changed from night to night depending on the crowd.
Producers say: ‘The result is three shows that feel genuinely unpredictable, with moments that range from chaotic to confrontational as Acaster tests how much control a comedian really has over their own material.’
And Acaster himself said: ’Finally! I can attend a cinema screening of one of my own shows and heckle myself. See you there!’
The two-hour film will be screened from Friday March 6, with tickets going on sale from 10am tomorrow at jamesacasterincinemas.com. Here's a trailer:
Acaster previously released the triple-bill Repertoire and Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999 as Netflix specials, while his other TV appearances include Taskmaster, Would I Lie To You? and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
He has also become a successful podcaster via Off Menu, which he co-hosts with Ed Gamble.
The content film is being distributed via CinemaLive, specialists in ‘premium event cinema’ who have previously helped bring everything from a staged concert of Les Misérables to a season finale of Doctor Who to the big screen.
