James Acaster on quitting social media

New book out this summer

James Acaster has written a new book about quitting social media.

In a video announcing the August publication date he said: ’It is the book you all need.

‘If you want to get off social media and leech your brain of all the toxic things that social media has planted in there, deep deep within your brain, this is the book for you.

‘I tell you exactly how I did it and how I now live my life social-media free but I get everything social media used to give me back in the real world. How I now spy on my ex-girlfriends in real life how I now start arguments with strangers in real life you don't need the Internet for the things you can do it out in the real world by the book.’

And the comic – who quit social media in 2019 – joked:‘Spread the word! Tell all your friends about it. I want you to on Twitter on Facebook on Instagram we're gonna go viral on this’

James Acaster's Guide to Quitting Social Media, Being The Best YOU You Can Be And Saving Yourself From Loneliness, Vol. 1 will be published by Headline on August, 18.

It will be Acaster's third book, following on from 2017's Classic Scrapes – a collection of his embarrassing anecdotes – and the 2019 memoir Perfect Sound Whatever, about how he turned to obsessively collecting the music of 2016 in response to a tough year.

Publisher Richard Roper told trade website The Bookseller: ‘While working as an undercover cop and dealing with Cabbages in the post, James has somehow also found the time to become the most important self-help guru in the world.

‘This epoch-defining tome will finally solve the riddle of how we can stay off social media and still find the dizzying highs that come with each tweet. It's not an exaggeration to say that this book will change lives.’
