Hypothetical gets a fourth series

Josh Widdicombe and James Acaster's panel show to return

Josh Widdicombe and James Acaster are to return for a fourth series of their panel show Hypothetical.

The Dave channel today confirmed that it has commissioned eight more hour-long episodes of the show to air next year.

Widdicombe said: ‘It is an absolute pleasure to be reunited with James after a year of him not returning my texts or calls. Thank you to Dave for forcing him to hang out with me again.

Acaster added: ‘We're back and more hypotheticaler than ever. Josh and I can't wait to gunge celebrities and give away thousands of pounds in cold hard cash.’

What actually happens on the show is that the pair pose absurd hypothetical situations to guest comics who have to improvise their responses.

Previous guests  have included  Richard Ayoade, Jo Brand, Ed Gamble, Suzi Ruffell, Sophie Duker and Joel Dommett.

The third series, which was nominated for best entertainment programme at this year's Broadcast Awards, averaged around 300,000 viewers an episode as they were broadcast.

Iain Coyle, who commissioned the show for Dave’s parent company UKTV called Hypothetical ‘the cleverest, funniest, most creative show on telly’.

Widdicombe devised the format with fellow comics Matthew Crosby and Tom Craine.
