Lucas and Kay join for charity single

Matt Lucas and Peter Kay are to record a cover version of Proclaimers hit I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) for Comic Relief.

Both comics are known to be fans of the Scottish band. Lucas wrote sleeve notes for their greatest hits album, while Kay joined the band on stage at Live8 last year.

The band will provide backing vocals on the single, which charity chiefs hope will emulate the success of the version of Tony Christie's Amarillo, which sold a million copes for Red Nose Day last year thanks to the Peter Kay video.

A Red Nose Day spokesman told the Daily Mirror: ‘The Comic Relief single is hugely important to us, it is a great fundraiser.’

This week Peter Kay sold the purple suit he wore on the Amarillo video on eBay, raising £790 for a Bolton children’s hospice.
