Five more awards for Apple TV horror-comedy

Widow’s Bay swept the board in the comedy categories at the Emmys last night.

The horror-comedy about a cursed New England island town was named best comedy, with star Matthew Rhys taking the best lead actor in a comedy.

And the male and female supporting acting Emmys went to Stephen Root and Kate O’Flynn.

Writer Katie Dippold and director Hiro Murai won their categories, and Betty Gilpin won for guest actress, with the latter announced last week. In doing so, Murai became the first Asian to be named best director.

The only comedy awards not to go to the show were for lead actress, which Jean Smart won for Hacks for the fifth time,  and guest actor, which Rob Reiner won posthumously for The Bear. 

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert won the Emmy for best variety series.

Ten episodes of Widow’s Bay have run on Apple TV, with a second series commissioned this summer.
