New project for Amazon's Prime Video
Romesh Ranganathan is to host a new reality series for Amazon’s Prime Video.
In Would You Rather: Decide To Survive, teams compete in a series of challenges based on either-or decisions until only one remains.
Ranganathan said: ‘I’m excited about this new show, and I'm not just saying that because I'm hosting, although that does help.
‘Would You Rather is a game that everyone is familiar with and now we're making ten people live through these choices, which is both hilarious and slightly cruel - the perfect combination for quality entertainment.’
Amazon said: ‘We’ve all played the classic hypothetical game–now get ready to play it for real.'
And they gave examples of ‘would you rather’ questions as: Would you rather be invisible or be able to fly? Fight one giant duck or 1,000 tiny ducks? Eat a man-sized bean or a bean-sized man? Though it’s not clear whether any of these will have a role in the show, which will air next year.
The news comes in the week it was announced that Ranganathan is to make his West End debut, starring opposite Sheridan Smith in Alan Ayckbourn’s darkly comic psychological drama Woman in Mind.
Talking about that project, he told the BBC: ‘I understand the thing about overexposure, but if that happens, it happens. I try not to overthink things that much, to be honest.’
The comedian's game show Parents Evening returns to ITV on Saturday and his travelogue series Can’t Knock The Hustle continues on Sky Max, while he also hosts The Weakest Link and a Radio 2 show as well as his stand-up work.
The commission of Would You Rather: Decide To Survive follows the success of Last One Laughing UK on Prime Video. Ranganathan will be among the contestants in the recently announced second series.
