Cold comfort as Romesh Ranganathan heads to the Arctic Billy Connolly fronts TWO travelogues

Romesh Ranganathan has travelled to the Arctic for a Christmas edition of his extreme travel show.

The comic is joined by Inuit athlete and movie star Johnny Isaaluk as he travels to the frozen northlands of Canada for the BBC Two special.

According to the BBC, his aim is to find out ‘if his preconceptions about this remote part of the world are right, or whether there is more to this area than the prospect of freezing to death or being eaten by a polar bear’.

And his veganism may prove a hurdle as he tries to adapt to the hunters’ way of life

The Arctic special comes ahead of a full second series of The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan, which was commissioned this summer.

Meanwhile, Billy Connolly is to star in not one but two travel shows this Christmas.

As Chortle revealed in August, the comic has filmed Made In Scotland about his homeland.

The two one-hour specials cover his return to Scotland to explore the influences and motivations that turned him from being Billy Connolly the welder into Billy Connolly The Big Yin.

A tie-in book has just been published (Review), while the TV show will go out on BBC Two over Christmas.

Meanwhile, ITV is celebrating 25 years of Connolly’s World Tour Of… travelogues with a one-off.

Billy Connolly’s Ultimate World Tour is based around a fresh trip around his new home state of Florida, but also includes his memories of previous voyages, including Scotland, Canada and Australia.

The comic said: ‘It was exactly 25 years ago that I found myself taking the cameras out of the theatres and into the world. It’s a journey that’s taken me to far-flung places and offered up once-in-a-lifetime experiences and I’m still discovering thrilling new stuff around every corner now I’ve pitched up in Florida.’
