Comic to 'fact check' his stand-up material
Romesh Ranganathan’s latest travelogue series – in which he ‘fact-checks’ his own stand-up material – is to air on Sky next month.
Can’t Knock The Hustle kicks off with Ranganathan’s latest stand-up special, filmed at London’s O2 Arena, in which the comedian shares his theories on life, work, self-improvement and success
And in three follow-up episodes, he sets off around the world to check if any of those theories were correct. Cameras followed the comic as he visited India, the USA, South Korea and Canada ‘interrogating, unravelling and debunking his own material’.
Featuring a voiceover by Dame Emma Thompson, the show will drop on Sky Max and streaming service Now on September 24. A short trailer has been released:
When the project was first announced in December, Ranganathan said: ‘Stand-ups often deliver a show completely unchecked by logic. We decided to film a series exploring what I’d said on stage and whether I was right. This show confirms the suspicion that I often don’t know what I’m talking about.’
The series is being made by the comic’s production company Ranga Bee. Its managing director, Benjamin Green, who also directed the show, has said: ‘It takes a special kind of person to diligently fact-check their tour show – but an even more special kind to wait until after they’ve performed it for thousands of people. Romesh is that person.’
Ranganathan has previously toured the world with Asian Provocateur, along with his mum Shanthi and four series of The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan as well as shooting on location for Rob & Romesh Vs... and a League of Their Own Roadtrip.
It was last week announced that Ranganathan would be one of the contestants on the next series of Amazon Prime Video’s Last One Laughing.
