With his mum

Romesh Ranganathan has today launched a twice-weekly video podcast with his mum, Shanthi.

Michael Sheen is the first guest on the simply titled The Romesh Ranganathan Show, talking to the comic about confidence in his craft, the story behind handing back his OBE and being approached by superfans with tattoos of him on their chests.

Paloma Faith, Jamie Redknapp, Jameela Jamil, Jack Whitehall, Tim Key,  and Tim Minchin are lined up for future episodes.

Meanwhile Shanthi will join Ranganathan on the Thursday episodes, giving advice on  family-focused listener dilemmas and confessions.

The comic said:  ‘We wanted to be at the forefront of the podcast movement but waited a good 10 years before actually doing something. 

‘I’m genuinely excited about the conversations we’re having with our guests and slightly terrified by the ones with my mum.’

The news comes in the week Ranganathan starts a live tour of his Wolf And Owl podcast – which he co-hosts with Tom Davis – and the launch of his travelogue series Can't Knock The Hustle on Sky. 

It has also just been announced that The Weakest Link is returning for 12 new episodes next month starting with a line-up comprised entirely of fellow presenters on Radio 2, where he has a Saturday morning show. 

The Romesh Ranganathan Show is the first podcast made by his production company Ranga Bee.

Managing director Benjamin Green said: ‘This is an exciting new direction for Ranga Bee and Romesh. We want to create a home for A-list talent to create their ultimate fully visual podcast and digital shows. Unfortunately, contractually we had to start with Romesh.’
