Louis CK lands a Netflix special
The uncancellation continues
Netflix is to air Louis CK’s first stand-up special for a major streamer since he admitted to sexual misconduct.
The comic was supposedly cancelled in 2017 after the New York Times published allegations that he had masturbated in front of colleagues, which he later confessed were true.
Since then he has independently produced a number of specials himself, including the Grammy-winning Sincerely Louis CK, while continuing to tour at major venues.
Now Netflix has said they will release his new show Ridiculous this summer, which CK also directed and executive produced.
And as a further sign he is being accepted back into the mainstream industry, he will headline a show at the Hollywood Bowl as part of Netflix Is A Joke Fest, on May 5.
This will be his first special since the self-produced Louis CK at the Dolby, released in 2023.
That same year, the film Sorry/Not Sorry told the story of his sexual misconduct through the eyes of the women who faced a backlash for speaking out…and the fears their experience would prevent others from coming forward.
At the time his behaviour was made public, CK said each encounter was consensual but: ‘What I learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your dick isn’t a question, it’s a predicament for them. The power I had over these women is that they admired me. And I wielded that power irresponsibly.’
