Get a first look at clips from the revived Mock The Week
...and it's remarkably similar to the old one!
Here are some clips from the first episode of the revived Mock The Week, to air on the TLC channel on Sunday night.
The episode marks the comeback of Russell Howard, who led the original BBC series in 2010.
He will be joined by Ahir Shah, Angela Barnes, Ed Byrne, and Sara Pascoe, plus Rhys James, who joins the series as a regular panellist.
It is a familiar line-up from the original series, which ended on 2022 after 17 years.
Pascoe jokes on the show: ‘I just wanted to say I feel bad for the viewers, because when they bought back the Gladiators they had fit, young, sexy, new ones. They didn’t bring out the old ones again.’
Dara Ó Briain also returns as host of the series that has been expanded from 30 minutes to 60, albeit with advert breaks.
He previously said: ‘I’m genuinely delighted to be back doing Mock the Week and on TLC. From what I remember, it’s a show that thrives on silly jokes from smart people and any actual insight is purely accidental. Also, from what I remember, my job was mainly just pressing a buzzer and handing out imaginary points. I can still do that. Here, have some imaginary points! That's how easy it is. Also, it's coming back just in time to confuse people who had only just heard it had been cancelled. See you there!’
In the first episode, James jokes about the Beckham family saga: ‘My favourite part of this whole story though is that the person that went on the news to expose what the truth is was DJ Fat Tony. That can’t be the arbiter of truth in a national news story. Most people are judged by a select committee or a jury of their peers. For years we've wondered what zig a zig ah means and now we know it's give a lap dance to your first born.’
Howard added: ‘Apparently his mum was dancing inappropriately at his wedding which is not shock news... at my wedding my Mum was grinding up Greg Davies for an hour. It was like a bear against a tree. I see a little bit of a dance and my mum going, I'll give you a Taskmaster!’
Barnes adds: ‘He wrote it all on Instagram didn't he? And I read it and I just thought, I'm really pleased David Beckham can't read.’
The team also spoke about the number of Tory politicians defecting to Nigel Farage’s Reform:
And here they talk about Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham’s ambitions to lead the Labour party:
In next week's show, Shah, Barnes, Byrne return alongside O Briain and James, and are joined by Lou Sanders and Milton Jones.
Mock the Week is on free-to-air TLC on Sundays at 9pm
