Punching Up logoThe Queen Mother was a fan of ’Allo ’Allo!, it has been claimed, even interrupting dinner parties so she could watch the latest episode.

Her butler ‘Backstairs’ Billy Tallon use to wheel a TV into the dining room whenever the wartime sitcom was on, according to a new Channel 5 documentary.

‘Guests had to put down their cutlery and watch the half-hour episode,’ recalls Sue Hodge, who played waitress Mimi Labonq. ‘Then, after it was wheeled out, they carried on.’

Comedy Gold: 'Allo ‘Allo! airs on Channel 5 at 9pm tomorrow.
