Hoopla improv celebrates 20 years

With a festival in ints London venue

London’s Hoopla improv theatre is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a festival bringing together performers who appeared there early in their careers.

Acts so far confirmed include Dylan Emery, Adam Meggido, Ruth Bratt Andrew Pugsley and Phil Pellew. of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical;  Rob Broderick’s Abandoman, Will Naameh’s MC Hammersmith, and Comedy Store Players including Lee Simpson.

The programme will feature editions of two of Hoopla’s regular shows: Comedi-Asians, which celebrates Asian and south-east Asian performers, and Do The Right Scene, which showcases Black and global majority improvisers.

All shows will be staged at improv theatre and school – based at an 80-seat venue above The Miller pub in London Bridge – from April 10 to  May 21.

Steve Roe, Hoopla’s director, said: ‘I just can’t believe Hoopla is 20 years old – the time has flown by.

‘It’s an honour to be a part of the amazing improv community and the incredible improv revolution that’s swept through the UK. This has been a massive team effort, with 1000s of people and 100s of shows and improv companies working together over decades with a shared passion for improvisation.

‘I’m really excited to see groups that usually perform on the West End or to other massive audiences back in our cosy 80-seater venue.’
