CNN orders a third series of Have I Got News For You
As Roy Wood Jr. returns to host the UK original
CNN has renewed Have I Got News For You for a third season.
The American version of the long-running UK comedy series is hosted by Roy Wood Jr. along with team captains Amber Ruffin and Michael Ian Black.
The news comes as it was announced that Wood Jr would be hosting the British original for the second time.
Like the UK version, the CNN edition – which will return n Saturday, September 6 – is made by Hat Trick Productions.
All three regulars said in a joint statement: ‘Now that we know that none of us will be Pope, we proudly announce our return for Season 3 of Have I Got News For You.’
CNN executive Amy Entelis said: ‘Have I Got News For You continues to serve as a humorous reprieve for audiences on Saturday nights without ever losing its bite,
'The continued success of our Saturday primetime lineup shows that topical entertainment programming is resonating with CNN viewers.’
The show will also get a companion podcast that will launch this summer.
Executive producer Jimmy Mulville said: ‘We're pleased and proud that CNN have asked us to come back and find what's funny in the news on Saturdays this fall.’
Meanwhile Wood Jr. will be in the hotseat of the BBC’s topical comedy show for the May 30 edition, with Guz Khan as one of the panellists.
It is the second time he has hosted the UK show, having done the job last November, just a few days after the American presidential election. So this is his first time in charge of the British original since Donald Trump returned to the White House.
