Women In Comedy fest crowns its winners

Jessie Nixon for best show and Lulu Simons best newcomer

Jessie Nixon and Lulu Simons were crowned winners at this year’s Women in Comedy Festival in Manchester.

Nixon won best show for Don’t Make Me Regret This and said: ‘I love Manchester so much and also the team at the WICF and the Frog and Bucket which is becoming such a glorious home away from home club for me!’

Her award was accepted by Joe Hollingworth from her agents, Gag Reflex, and she said: ‘Getting a man to accept my Women in Comedy award is a genius and intentional example of comic irony, just one of the many weapons I wield in my comedic artillery.’

Nixon was previously named a Chortle Hotshot ahead of the Edinburgh Fringe debut of this show, which also earned her a nomination in the Comedians Choice awards.

Welsh comic Simons was named best newcomer at the Women in Comedy Festival for her show Council Estate Gap Year. She’s pictured above with festival programmer Aimee Perry.

The awards were sponsored by Manford’s Comedy Clubs.
