Sleep with the Ghosts

'Button Hall' opens up for fans to stay overnight

Ghosts fans can now have a sleepover in the fictional haunted house where the BBC comedy is set.

West Horsley Place in Surrey is opening its doors for a series of events to mark the release of the sitcom’s big-screen spin-off  The Possession of Button House on October 23.

For £135, visitors will ‘have exclusive access to explore this iconic filming setting in a whole new light’, say organisers. But no beds are provided, fans will have to bring their own sleeping bag to bed down in Stone Hall, the medieval great hall, where Henry VIII once feasted and which is the main lounge in Button House.

The event – on four dates between August and February – includes atmospheric after-dark filming tours of the house, a silent disco, dinner and breakfast in the 50-room mansion, which dates from 1425.

The house is also hosting a number of Ghosts-themed family fun days, including ‘task master type challenges’, plus a weekend to mark the film’s release in October.

West Horsley Place  was privately owned and occupied by Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe, until she died in 2014, leaving it to her   great-nephew, the TV presenter Bamber Gascoigne. He died in 2022 and it is now run by a trust.

Ghosts originally aired on BBC One for five series and 34 episodes from 2019 to 2023, with its last episode attracting 7.2million viewers.

A US remake has run for 94 episodes over five seasons, while the BBC recently bought the rights to the Australian version to air on iPlayer and BBC Three.
