Stand-up trading cards launched in the US

comedyAmerican comedy fans will soon be able to trade cards based on their favourite stand-ups.

The Laugh Factory clubs have signed a licensing deal for the collectables through the company Epoch.

More than 20 comics feature, including the likes of  Howie Mandel, Max Jobrani and Dane Cook – with cards in various designs and printing techniques and some signed by the performers.

Epoch says the 100-card hobby edition – which costs $120 (£88.50) should contain one signed and one numbered limited edition card, on average.

Jamie Masada, founder of Laugh Factory, said: ‘From the very beginning, Laugh Factory has always been about giving comedians a stage and a voice. To now see comedy honoured in this way– with its own collectible trading cards – is something truly special. It’s a celebration of the artists who have dedicated their lives to bringing joy and laughter to people worldwide.’

Wataru Sakonjo, of Epoch, added: ‘The excitement we’ve already seen from fans, collectors, and comedians themselves confirms that this category is long overdue. There is a very bright future ahead for high-quality, collectible comedy trading cards, as we are just scratching the surface.’

The cards will launch on Thursday – preceded by a gig at the Laugh Factory Hollywood tonight featuring some of the stand-ups featured on the cards.

In 2013, Top Trumps launched a limited edition Kings and Queens Of Comedy set featuring British comedians ranked on categories such as wit, wardrobe and wrinkles.
