Which comedians ran the London Marathon?
Raising more than £115,000 between them
Fern Brady, John Robins and Rob Deering were among the comedians who took part in the London marathon yesterday.
George Lewis – who raised more than £17,000 for Autistica - recorded the fastest time of any comic, at 03hr 04min 25sec
The times for the other comedians were
- Rob Deering, running for Parkinson’s UK: 03:47:22
- Fern Brady, running for Autistica:- 05:49:12
- John Robins, running for Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse: 04:48:08
- Helen Thorn, half of the Scummy Mummies comedy duo and running for Women’s Aid: 04:55:01
Brady, who raised more than £15,000, posted after the event, with maybe a hint of sarcasm: ‘That was piss easy and at no point did I lose my grip on reality or believe I was crying hysterically and making a holy show of myself when in fact there was no tears coming out my eyes.’
Robins, who raised almost £80,000 for the domestic abuse charity for which he is an ambassador, said he was ‘completely overwhelmed’, adding: ‘Thank you to everyone who cheered and donated and sent kind messages.’
He added that he was announcing his retirement from marathon running ‘with immediate effect’.
Deering raised £2,700 and Thorn £1,700 – which means together the comic raised a total of £115,000 for good causes.
Meanwhile, Ricky Gervais used the event to promote his Dutch Barn vodka, putting a billboard along the marathon route with the slogan: ‘Remember: Being healthy is basically dying as slowly as possible.’
