Su Pollard writes her memoir
Hi-de-Hi star promises to reveal 'the real her'
Su Pollard has written a ‘revealing and comical’ memoir, due out in August.
Publishers Mirror Books say that ‘until now, Su has been very guarded about her personal life - but has decided it’s finally time to let fans see the real her’.
The book, Fully Charged, promises to reveal the truth about the 76-year-old’s marriage and her family relationships, the night she danced with Princess Diana, and the time Freddie Mercury asked for her autograph.
The Hi-de-Hi star was married to Australian teacher Peter Keogh for eight years. Soon after their honeymoon, he was outed as gay during a court case where he was accused – but acquitted – of theft. He wrote his own memoir, My Hi-De-High Life Before, After and During Su Pollard, in 2013. He later said he had to remain closeted as he grew up in a religious family in the 1950s.
Mirror Books said of Fully Charged that ‘for every role she played, Su has a dozen madcap behind-the-scenes stories which will keep readers giggling all the way to the final page. She shares hilarious tales of her showbiz friendships with the likes of Ruth Madoc, Matthew Kelly, Paul Shane, Gloria Hunniford, Ray Meagher [Alf Stewart in the Australian soap Home and Away] and David Hasselhoff, and pulls back the curtain about what fame is really like.’
The book – due to be published on August 6 – is a collaboration with musical theatre writer Paul Boyd, who also co-wrote Pollard’s one-woman show Still Fully Charged.
The actress published her first memoir, Hearts And Showers, through Headline in 1988
As well as Hi-de-Hi and its sister sitcoms You Rang, M’Lord? and Oh, Doctor Beeching!, Pollard’s TV credits include Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity MasterChef, stage musicals such as Me And My Girl and numerous pantomimes.
Fully Charged by Su Pollard is available to order from Amazon priced £22 in hardback.
