Netflix announces new animated British comedy Living The Dream

Javone Prince, Julia Davis and more star in Apple & Onion creator's new show

Javone Prince, Julia Davis and Tom Stourton are among the British comedy talent lending their voices to the new animated sitcom Living The Dream.

The workplace comedy has been created by George Gendi, who previously created the Cartoon Network animated series Apple and Onion.

It revolves around best friends Des and Ray, a couple of ‘really cool guys’ from London who should have made it big by now but haven’t but still could.

Instead, they’re stuck in a low-paid job doing social media for a company called Ecofood, where they must navigate awkward workplace romance, HR blunders, directives from the LA office and Ray’s dad’s disapproval.

In a statement announcing the news, Gendi said: ‘If living the dream is being asked for a quote for a press release to announce my new show and then at Netflix’s request, trying to make it more cheeky/funny and then doing that countless times because none of them are good enough, then I’ve made it. Anyway, let’s see if they let me use this one.'

Gendi, who also stars in the series, wrote it with Ted Lasso actress Phoebe Walsh; Joe Parnham and  Joe Markham – both of whom worked with him on the  earlier show, Amazing World of Gumball; and Ellie White, who also has a role.

The cast also includes Ali Shahalom, Ambika Mod, Lisa Gilroy, Chris Diamantopoulos, Stavros Halkias, Kevin Eldon, Doon Mackichan, Charles Dale and  David Dawson.

News of the  project – which will run for eight 25-minute episodes – was unveiled by Netflix animation boss Julio Bonet  at the Manchester Animation Festival.

Netflix is also set to air Ricky Gervais’s animated series Alley Cats next year, with a cast that includes Tom Basden, Diane Morgan, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, Andrew Brooke, Tony Way, and Natalie Cassidy.

Living The Dream is being made by Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe with Irish  animation studio Boulder Media.
