Who won at the 2024 Chortle Awards?

Taskmaster, Sam Campbell and Kiri Pritchard-McLean all do the double

Taskmaster, Sam Campbell and Kiri Pritchard-McLean were all double award winners at the Chortle awards tonight.

Taskmaster was named best TV show as well as taking the outstanding achievement award, for its enduring success over 16 series and seven specials, and for raising the profile of so many comics who might not otherwise fit the panel show mould.

Campbell, who won the last series, took home the best breakthrough act gong and was named comedians’ comedian by his peers.

And Pritchard-McLean was named best club comedian and best compere.

Meanwhile, respected director Adam Brace – who died at the age of 43 last May – was remembered with the offstage contribution award, and Viggo Venn’s victory in Britain’s Got Talent was named event of the year, for bringing daft comedy and clowning into the mainstream, on a show that has not always been sympathetic to oddball acts.

John Kearns’s The Varnishing Days won best show and James Acaster’s Hecklers Welcome was best tour. Paddy Young was named best newcomer, Lorna Rose Treen won best sketch, variety or improv act and Joe Lycett best TV comedian

Julia Masli and Ian Smith had led this year’s nominations with three apiece.
