Look what Mummy and Mummy's Mummy made

Joe Lycett is to stage an art exhibition with his mum Helen.

The comedian has previously had work accepted into the Royal Academy’s summer exhibition, while his mother is a watercolourist, a former graphic designer and an associate of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.

Joe, as depicted below by his mum, joked: ‘Despite an angry and bitter personal relationship, mum and I have a deep mutual respect for our artworks. We are delighted to share these works which should help pay for ongoing family legal disputes.’

The new show is at a gallery called They Made This in Covent Garden, Central London, from Friday September 22 until Sunday  October 1. They previously exhibited together at Savile Road tailors Nortons & Son in 2019.

Wirting to fans in his newsletter, the comedian added: 'There’ll be tons of our original artworks on show, old and new, some ‘mash-ups’ we’ve done together, plus a limited run of large screen prints, giclees, ceramics and more, available to buy in store and online.

'This is the first time either of us have done larger prints of our work and they’re the first ever Lycett screen prints. Basically there’s some really cool stuff available that we’re all very excited about.

'We chose They Made This because we love them for all sorts of reasons: they have a great eye for fun art, they’re a queer-led business AND they’re mad about affordable art.

'There will be some higher end stuff for the collectors but also some super accessible stuff and some prints you can get for actual free.'

Helen said: ‘"Let’s have a joint exhibition," he said. "I’ll just add a few finishing touches to some of your paintings," he didn’t say.’

The gallery will be selling limited edition prints, as well as a small selection of Joe’s ceramics, fabric adorned with Helen’s floral artwork and some original paintings.  Some signed pieces can be won in a tombola, too.

Aine Donovan and Eloise Jones, founders of They Made This said in a statement: ‘We are thrilled to curate this playful mother and son show. We hope the proceeds will help towards the store refit needed after the giant mess our own son made yesterday.’

Entry to the gallery at 66 Neal Street is free and it is open from 11am to 6pm  Sunday-Wednesday and 10am to 8pm Thursday, Friday & Saturday.
