The Windsors to return for a new series

..and a Coronation special

The Windsors will be back for a new series - and special episode to mark King Charles’s Coronation one of its stars has revealed.

Haydn Gwynne, who plays Camilla in the Channel 4 comedy, said: 'They have commissioned another series, which we will be shooting later this year. But also, we’re going to be very soon doing a Coronation special.'

Speaking on Radio 4's Saturday Live this morning, the actress said she thought the death of co-writer  George Jeffrie in 2020 may have spelled the end of the series.

But she added that co-creator Bert Tyler-Moore 'has managed to pick up the baton, and we’re doing it again'.

The show, which features Harry Enfield as Charles, has run for three series from 2016 and 2020 - although it never depicted the monarch during the late Queen's reign.

Gwynne also said that she had intended to make her portrayal of a conniving Camilla a broad caricature, barely rooted in reality. But she joked that Prince Harry might have been taking it too literally, given his unflattering portrayal of his mother-in-law in his memoirs, Spare.

'I’m beginning to worry if Prince Harry has been watching too much of The Windsors along with everything else he’s been watching because I thought my Camilla had nothing to do with the real Camilla,' she told hosts Nikki Bedi amd Richard Coles.

The Windsors - which also spawned a West End stage show - also stars Hugh Skinner as Prince William, Louise Ford as Princess Catherine, Tom Durant-Pritchard  as Prince Harry,  Kathryn Drysdale as Meghan, Morgana Robinson as Pippa Middleton, Ellie White as Princess Beatrice, Celeste Dring as Princess Eugenie, Katy Wix as Fergie, Tim Wallers as Prince Andrew and Vicki Pepperdine as Princess Anne.

Charles's Coronation will take place in Westminster Abbey on May 6.
