US Ghosts comes to BBC iPlayer

First season of the CBS remake streaming now

The American version of Ghosts has landed on iPlayer.

All 18 episodes of the first series have been uploaded the platform, with the first episode airing on BBC Three’s linear channel at 8.30pm last night.

The premise is the same as the UK version with  Rose McIver and Utkash Ambudkar as a young couple, Samantha and Jay, who buy a house that is haunted by spirits only Samantha can see.

However some of the ghosts have been changed to reflect US history, and include Alberta Haynes, a Prohibition-era jazz singer who died from drinking poisoned moonshine,  Viking explorer Thorfin, hippie Flower and a Native American, Sasappis.

Among those missing are  Thomas, the lovelorn romantic poet played by Mathew Baynton in the BBC original, witch-trial victim Mary (Katy Wix) and cheery-but-dim Georgian Kitty (Lolly Adefope).

The team who created the British version – Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond –  are executive producers on the US version,  which has proved a hit on CBS.

The first season started with an audience of 7.3million last year, including catch-up viewers, which grew to just under 9million by the end of the season.  A second series of 22 episodes is currently airing on Thursday nights.

The remake has also proved a critical hit, with a 91 per cent approval rating on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.
