Cafe sitcom won't be back for a third series

ITV has cancelled the sitcom Kate & Koji after two series.

The comedy starred Brenda Blethyn as a cafe owner who was initially aloof with an African asylum-seeker, played by Jimmy Akingbola, but reluctantly allowed him to set up a surgery in the seaside establishment to bring in customers.

Written by Outnumbered creators Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, the comedy  – the broadcaster’s first studio audience sitcom in seven years – launched in March 2020 with an audience of more than five million views

A second series in March this year, starred Okorie Chukwu as Koji after Akingbola left to appear  in the reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In 

The news of the cancellation was first reported by The Mirror, with an ITV spokesperson saying: ‘We've loved having Kate & Koji on the channel, but after two series there are currently no plans for a third.

‘We would like to thank all the cast and crew for their hard work in bringing these characters alive on screen and in the studio in front of a live audience.’
