Taskmaster's John Kearns announces 2023 tour

...as do Zoe Lyons and Simon Brodkin

John Kearns, Zoe Lyons and Simon Brodkin have all announced new tours for 2023.

Kearns made his debut on Taskmaster last night and immediately released details of his fifth solo show, The Varnishing Days.

It kicks off with a week-long run at London’s Soho Theatre, from February 13, then tours the UK until April.

Kearns has won the Edinburgh Comedy Award for both best show and best newcomer and is a four-time Chortle Award nominee.

In his blurb for the show, he predicts: ‘When I visit your town dogs will start barking, as will clergy. Your microwave will go haywire. The lights in your vestibule will flicker and the Bank of England will nervously look at interest rates.

‘On the day I write this, the pound has hit an all-time low against the dollar. Mark my words. This show will break that record again and again and again.’

In her new show, Bald Ambition, Lyons discusses her alopecia as well as having a ‘monumental midlife crisis’ after turning 50.

This involved buying a sports car, having a brief separation from her partner of 23 years and running a 100k ultra marathon which didn’t end well. She even turned her back on her career and started delivering vegetables from a van.

She said: ‘I’m beyond excited to be touring again in 2023, what with going mad during lockdown and my alopecia recurring with a vengeance.

‘I need to be back to my first love - the stage! So please come and see my most personal show yet and help me out of my (late) midlife crisis.’

Her 39 dates start at The Stand in Edinburgh on Thursday February 2 and culminate on Sunday April 30 at Plymouth’s Quad Theatre.

Meanwhile, prankster and Lee Nelson creator Simon Brodkin’s latest stand-up tour, Screwed Up, will take in 56 dates.

It is the comic’s second show as himself and promises to be ‘far more personal than his debut’, as he explores his Russian ancestry, his recent ADHD diagnosis, and his relationship to fame – having made headlines all over the world with his notorious stunts.
