About soldiers who become celebrities after they are taken hostage

Sean Penn is  to star in a new ITV comedy about a group of  soldiers taken hostage.

The broadcaster has acquired the rights to C*A*U*G*H*T, a six-part series currently being made for  Australian streaming service Stan.

The show has been created by Melburnian actor Kick Gurry, who stars alongside Penn, Lost‘s  Matthew Fox and  Ben O’Toole from Hackshaw Ridge.

The show revolves around four Australian soldiers who get captured while on a secret mission to a war-torn country and mistaken for Americans.

But when their hostage video goes viral they become celebrities and realise that being caught might just be the best thing that could’ve happened to them.

Gurry said in a statement: ‘The biggest challenge for me was creating something worthy enough of all my insanely talented friends. I genuinely cannot wait to share this show with the whole world and look forward to the internet telling me how terribly I missed the mark.’

The show has been bought by ITV for broadcast on its new streaming service ITV X.

ITV’s head of content acquisitions, Sasha Breslau, said: The star-studded cast and satirical humour will be a real treat for ITVX viewers next year.’
