ITV commissions five new comedies

...including a deep fake series created by Spencer Jones

ITV is to launch five comedies on its new streaming platform, ITVX, written by the likes of Spencer Jones and Jayde Adams.

The shows which will premiere on the free service have been released to trade magazine Broadcast – but with no casting details, nor details of how many episodes, but each will run for half an hour.

In a digital-first strategy, the broadcaster will stream the shows up  to nine months before they are broadcast on television.

They are:

Deep Fake Neighbour Wars: A parody of New Zealand TV format Neighbours At War using deep-fake technology to turn celebrities into unruly residents. Created by Spencer Jones and produced by Tiger Aspect.

Count Abdullah:  About a British Pakistani Muslim junior doctor based  in London who is bitten by a halal-hunting vampire. Written by Kaamil Shah and made by Fudge Park.

The Family Pile: A ‘comedic exploration of grief’ about two sisters who have lost their parents and are packing up the family home, ready to sell it, and the visitors who call by. It is written by Brian Dooley, who previously created BBC sitcom The Smoking Room and will be made by Hat Trick.

Ruby Speaking: This comedy about a call centre worker has been written by Abigail Wilson, whose credits include the Sky special about Roald Dahl & Beatrix Potter, titled The Tail Of The Curious Mouse, along with Jayde Adams, and is being made by Yellow Door Productions.

Significant Other: Based on an Israeli comedy of the same name, this comedy follows lonely neighbours who embark on a hesitant relationship with each other. Made by Quay Street and written by Dana Fainaru and Hamish Wright.

All have been commissioned by ITV head of scripted comedy Nana Hughes.

It was previously announced  that the comic thriller Passenger will also premiere on ITVX.
