Returning to the stage with 'all the misplaced confidence of a waiter with no pad'

David O’Doherty has announced a new UK tour, Whoa Is Me.

The Irish comic will be performing more than 30 dates in the autumn of this year and spring of next.

According to the official description of the show – which is premiering in Ireland this spring – O’Doherty will be ‘trotting on to the stage with all of the misplaced confidence of a waiter with no pad’.

‘Is he going to remember it?’ the blurb asks. ‘Hopefully!’

The tour includes opening the Aberdeen International Comedy Festival on October 6 after its two-year absence.

He said: ‘"It’s been four long years since I graced a stage in the Granite City, closing the 2018 comedy festival, this time I’m opening it. It will be great to be back in Aberdeen with my glued-together keyboard.’

Adrian Watson, chief executive of organisers Aberdeen Inspired said: ‘It is hugely exciting to announce the return of David O’Doherty to Aberdeen to open our festival for what will be our biggest, funniest and best festival yet. Our line-up of headline acts is nearly complete.’

O’Doherty has also been added to the Deer Shed music festival in North Yorkshire in July. Other comics playing there include  Stewart Lee presenting his documentary King Rocker and stand-up from  Rosie Jones, Maisie Adam and Shaparak Khorsandi.

O’Doherty is also going to be one of the handful of overseas acts heading to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival when it starts at the end of next month.

Tickets for Whoa Is Me went on sale this morning.
