Comic was best known as Britain's Got Talent's warm-up man

Tributes have been paid to comedian Ian Royce, best known for his warm-up work on Britain's Got Talent, after he died at the age of 51.

He died yesterday from severe pneumonia and multiple organ failure, surrounded by his friends and family, according to a statement on his official Twitter account.

Ant and Dec described him as an ‘integral part’ of the Britain's Got Talent team.

They posted on Twitter: ‘We are sorry to hear of the passing of Ian "Roycey" Royce. He was an integral part of the #BGT team for many years. Our thoughts are with his beloved Roxy  [his daughter] and all his family. RIP Roycey. We'll never forget you. X.’

Royce also worked on Piers Morgan's Life Stories, and the controversial host tweeted that hee was  the ‘funniest warm-up man in showbiz and a legend in the TV industry’, adding: ‘Thanks for all the laughs mate.’

His agent, Niki Winterson, said: ‘Personally devastated by the death of my much loved client Ian Royce, the funniest , bravest of men.’

And presenter Caroline Feraday posted: ‘Absolutely heartbroken to learn of the loss of Ian Royce. He was a huge talent, had a huge heart and I adored him as a friend. Rest in peace Roycey xxxx/

The news of his death was announced via Royce's personal Twitter account, signed by Roxanne.

A statement said: ‘It is with our greatest regret that we have to tell you all that Ian has passed away today from severe pneumonia and multiple organ failure.

‘He was in no pain and was surrounded by friends and family. He put up a good fight but is in a better place now.’

The official Britain’s Got Talent account also posted: ‘Yesterday we sadly lost a member of our #BGT family. Ian Royce was our warm-up artist from the very beginning and his infectious humour brought so much joy to our audiences. You will be missed @officialroycey. Thanks for the laughs. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.’

Royce had previously revealed a battle with alcoholism.

He also worked on the X Factor and supported One Direction in both New York and London.  He also appeared regularly on Sky News, reviewing the day’s papers.
