Joseph Morpurgo leads the nominations

Joseph Morpurgo is the frontrunner in this year's Chortle Awards, with three individual nominations.

He is up for best show, breakthrough act, and the innovation award.

Acts with two nominations apiece are Peter Kay (for the Phoenix Nights live show and Car Share); Mark Steel (best show and radio award); Lolly Adefope (best newcomer and character improv and sketch show); Spencer Jones (breakthrough and music and variety) and sketch trio Daphne (breakthrough and sketch). There are also several comics who are regulars with both Weirdos and Comedians' Cinema Club, both shortlisted in the music and variety section.

Many of the up-and-coming comedians also created a short Christmas film for Sky Arts – a series which is also up for the TV award.

Other nominees include Dara O Briain, Kevin Bridges, Bill Bailey, Katherine Ryan, Dave Chappelle. Sarah Millican's Standard Issue website and Just A Minute.

Voting will be open from now until 5pm on February 21; and the awards themselves will be presented at a ceremony in London on March 22.
