With Meghan Trainor as Madonna

Drunk History is returning after more than seven years. 

America’s Comedy Central is reviving the series – in which an inebriated narrator struggles to recount an historic event as actors reenact the narrative –   for three episodes, to drop on YouTube next week. 

Those appearing in the new episodes include Seth Green, Colin Hanks, Jack McBrayer, Patton Oswalt, Chris Parnell, Daryl Sabara, Meghan Trainor, Mae Whitman, ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic.

Originally made for the Funny Or Die website by host Derek Waters and co-creator Jeremy Konner in 2008, six series ran on Comedy Central from 2013 to 2019. A seventh was ordered, but later cancelled during the Covid pandemic.

A British version narrated by Jimmy Carr ran for 28 episodes between 2015 and 2017. 

The new episodes will drop from Tuesday, with the first episode revolving around Madonna’s first performance at the inaugural MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, starring Meghan Trainor, pictured, as the pop queen.

Other episodes will concern Frances Perkins, the woman who was the unsung architect of Franklin D Roosevelt’s New Deal, and the lifelong battle of two men to make the world’s largest ball of twine.

Ari Pearce, Comedy Central’s executive vice president in charge of original content, said: ‘We are thrilled that Drunk History is back. These new episodes reflect our heritage as both the home of iconic comedy franchises and a premier launchpad for comedic talent. 

‘As we continue to expand our reach across platforms, Drunk History is a great example of how we’re delivering Comedy Central to fans in new ways."

Waters added: ‘I’m so excited to be back making Drunk History again! We have a lot of catching up to do.’
