Romesh Ranganathan is to take over as host of Radio 4 Extra's Newsjack from Justin Edwards when the new series returns on March 6. Also joining the cast of sketch performers are Morgana Robinson, Ellie White and Radio 1’s Alice Levine. The show has an open door policy where producers accept scripts and one-liner submissions from anyone.

DAME EDNA EVERAGE's farewell performance, Eat, Pray, Laugh was named London's best solo theatrical performance at last night's What's On Stage awards, The Play That Goes Wrong was named best new comedy, while David Walliams took the best supporting actor gong for Midsummer Night's Dream after polling nearly four times the number of votes as his nearest rival, National Theatre actor Charles Edwards.

COMPUTERS will be able tell jokes indistinguishable from humans by 2029, Google's artificial intelligence expert Ray Kurzweil has predicted.

DERBY is to become the next British city to get its own comedy festival. Stand-up shows from Jimmy Carr and Ben Norris, Comedy Club 4 Kids, a night of the regular Funhouse comedy club, the revival of kids' adventure show Knightmare and a screening of the Jerry Seinfeld movie Comedian are the first events announced for the inaugural festival, which will run from June 13 to 22.
