Jack Whitehall to star in 'surprising' romcom

The Honeymooners to be set in an Italian vineyard

Jack Whitehall has been cast in a new romcom – as a man forced to go on honeymoon with the woman he just secretly divorced.

The comic will appear opposite The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev as the leads in The Honeymooners, Hollywood industry website Deadline reports.

Their characters, Freddy and Cleo, agreed on an amicable split, convinced they’re better off as best friends.  But then Freddy’s parents – to be played by Greg Kinnear and Andie MacDowell – and Cleo’s mum surprise them with the honeymoon of their dreams at an Italian vineyard. But the whole family is coming along, too.

The film comes from Daryl Wein, who last directed the 2022 Christmas romcom Something from Tiffany’s.

He told the website that The Honeymooners was a ‘romantic comedy that feels funny, heartfelt, surprising, and deeply human. It’s about the messy, unpredictable nature of love at every age, and the absurd lengths we go to hold onto it.’

It is set to be shot in the first quarter of 2027.
