Taskmaster renewed for six more series
Channel 4 commits to three more years
Channel 4 has recommissioned Taskmaster for six new series.
The deal will also include the New Year Treat and the Champion of Champions once there are five more champions to take part.
Under the deal, full episodes will also be available on Channel 4’s YouTube channel in the UK. Currently they drop on Taskmaster’s own channel immediately after broadcast but only for foreign territories.
The New Zealand, Australian and Canadian versions of the show will also be available on Channel 4’s streaming service and YouTube channel.
Taskmaster Greg Davies said: ‘I am delighted the comedian meat grinder remains open for business. I look forward to gleefully keeping it fed with the help of a small, introverted man that I own.’
And his assistant, Alex Horne, the show’s creator, added: ‘I’m pleased and quite stressed that I’ve got to come up with a lot more tasks for a lot more comedians but the thought of three more years in Greg’s deep embrace is soothing my little head.’
So far 209 episodes of Taskmaster have been made. The first nine series ran on Dave, before it moved to Channel 4 in a six-season deal in 2020. It was subsequently renewed for a further six series, taking it up to season 21, which starts next Thursday, featuring contestants Amy Gledhill, Armando Iannucci, Joanna Page, Joel Dommett, and Kumail Nanjiani.
Seasons 22 and 23 had already been announced by the production team and are included in the six announced today, which will bring the total up to 27.
Tom Beck, Channel 4’s commissioning editor, said: ‘Taskmaster is the most creative, funny and frankly ludicrous show on telly; I’m delighted to enable their silly brilliance for another three years’.
